Warmest congratulations to Sir Tom who is to be the recipient of the Queen's Medal for Music for 2013! Her Majesty the Queen will present him with his award, which has in the past been awarded to musicians such as the oboist Nicholas Daniel, bass-baritone Bryn Terfel and conductors Sir Charles Mackerras and Sir Colin Davis, in a ceremony later this year.

In view of his appearance in the production of Ariadne auf Naxos at Glyndebourne which opens this month, Sir Tom spoke to Tom Service of The Guardian about the opera and why he thinks there's something in common between Wagner's Beckmesser and Strauss's Music Master.

6th and 9th February 2013: Sir Tom will be at the Sage Gateshead for a Samling Masterclass and Concert respectively.
